When I was working on the monster typology assignment I had a thought - there is an entire book devoted to monsters we have not yet discussed!
This book is called The Monster Manual and it is part of the Dungeons & Dragons role-play game fantasy set-up. D&D goes back to the 70's and the Monster Manual has had various incarnations over the years - the one I am referencing in this post is the Fifth Edition. While the contents of these books have been adjusted to reflect D&D lore - much of the mythos around the monsters are the standard folklore found across the world.
It was difficult not to upload all the monsters in the book but I submit for consideration the following few:
Beholder - Alien
Bug Bear - Zoological
Manticore - Zoological
Mind Flayer - Alien
*You may notice in the character statistics, each monster is aligned in a particular way; lawful evil, chaotic evil, neutral evil, etc. This is a kind of code or set of rules for behaviour that govern the monsters actions. I thought it was an interesting tidbit for consideration as we think about monsters and the monstrous!
